Orleans

Orleans Old Burying Ground

A survey of the Orleans Cemetery on Main St which includes the Orleans Old Burying Ground next to the Federated Church was done about 1960 by Ruby N R Sears and Evelyn Howes. Copies are available at the CCGS and at the Orleans Historical Society.

Sturgis Library has a handwritten manuscript of a survey of this cemetery done about 1900.

Orleans Center Cemetery (aka Methodist Meeting House Cemetery)

"The Mayflower Descendant" Vol 7 1905 has a survey of this cemetery.

The Orleans Snow Library has a 2000 survey of this cemetery by Bonnie Snow.

Orleans Meeting House Road Cemetery

The Orleans Snow Library has a survey of this cemetery.

Orleans Rogers Family Cemetery

"The Mayflower Descendant" Vol 8 1906 has a survey of this cemetery by Arthur Linnell.

The Orleans Snow Library has a 1935 survey of this cemetery by Saraetta Crowell Rogers-Eldredge entitled "Graves on the Hill Back of Elnathan E. Eldredge Estate 1935".

Eastham

Eastham Cove Burying Ground

A 1904 - 1905 survey of Cove Burying Ground was published in "The Mayflower Descendant" Vol 8 1906 starting on page 1. This survey was done by Stanley Smith, Edward Whorf and John Willard.

Kenelm Collins surveyed the Cove Burying Ground (and Bridge Road Cemetery) in January 1976. The information for these two cemeteries including inscriptions and maps with grave locations was published in booklet form by the Eastham Historical Society in 1976. Included in the booklet are references to earlier surveys of the two cemeteries done by Joseph Paine in 1876 and by Smith, Whorf and Willard in 1904 - 1905.

"The Mayflower Descendant" 1906 Vol 8 1906 page 62 has information about the gravestone of Rev Samuel Treat (d 1716/17) including the inscription. This important gravestone was removed from Cove Burying Ground before 1905 for safekeeping in the Snow Library in Orleans where it was destroyed in the library fire of 1952. The CCGS has a small old notebook with handwritten copies of inscriptions from Cove Burying Ground including Rev Samuel Treat most likely before his gravestone was moved to Snow Library.

Eastham Bridge Road Cemetery

A 1904 - 1905 survey of Bridge Road Cemetery was published in "The Mayflower Descendant" 1906 Vol 8 starting on page 108 and 1907 Vol 9 starting on page 67.

Kenelm Collins surveyed Bridge Road Cemetery in January 1976. The information was published in booklet form by the Eastham Historical Society in 1976 as indicated under Cove Burying Ground.

Eastham Congregational and Soldiers Cemetery and Eastham Evergreen Cemetery

In 1987 the Eastham Historical Society published a survey compiled by Margaret H Weiler of the Congregational & Soldiers Cemetery and the Evergreen Cemetery both of which started in the 1800's. This booklet contains an index for all gravestones in Eastham including Cove and Bridge Road cemeteries.

Wellfleet

Wellfleet Duck Creek Cemetery

"The Mayflower Descendant" published a Duck Creek Cemetery survey. See 1908 Vol 10 starting on pages 180 & 204, 1909 Vol 11 starting on pages 142 & 227 and 1910 Vol 12 starting on pages 34, 94 & 136. This survey was done by Stanley Smith, John Willard and Edward Whorf in 1905 and 1907.

The CCCC has an original handwritten survey of Duck Creek Cemetery gravestones up to 1850 with no author name or date. Based on the recorded information, this appears to be the original survey by Smith, Willard and Whorf.

The Duck Creek Cemetery was surveyed by Elizabeth Freeman in 1961 and the information was published by the Rich Family Association. A plot plan and grave locations are included. Copies are available at many Cape Cod reference libraries including Eastham, CCGS and Sturgis.

Wellfleet Chequessett Neck Cemetery

A 1905 survey of the Wellfleet Chequessett Neck Cemetery by Stanley Smith was published in "The Mayflower Descendant" 1908 Vol 10 page 19.

The CCGS Bulletin Vol 8 No2 1982 includes a discussion of Wellfleet cemeteries by Kenneth Cole. It indicates that fifteen gravestones in Chequessett Neck Cemetery were recorded in the Mayflower Descendant in 1908 but only eight of these gravestones could be found in 1981.

South Wellfleet Cemetery

The Wellfleet Historical Society and the Rich Family Association published a survey of this cemetery which is available at several Cape Cod libraries including CCGS and the Eastham Library.

A 1906 survey of South Wellfleet Cemetery up to 1850 was published in "The Mayflower Descendant" 1910 Vol 12 page 206.

Wellfleet Oak Dale Cemetery

The Wellfleet Historical Society and the Rich Family Association published a survey of this cemetery which is available at CCGS and Eastham Library.

Wellfleet Pleasant Hill Cemetery

The Wellfleet Historical Society and the Rich Family Association published a survey of this cemetery which is available at CCGS and Eastham Library.

Truro

General

In 2002 the Rich Family Association published "Truro Cemeteries". This book includes cemetery surveys up to the present time for Old North Cemetery, Pine Grove Cemetery, Truro Methodist Cemetery, Truro Congregational Cemetery, Snow Cemetery, Truro Sacred Heart Cemetery and Isolated Burial Sites in Truro. This book is available in the Truro, CCGS and Sturgis libraries and from the Rich Family Association.

Truro Old North Cemetery

"The Mayflower Descendant" published a survey of Old North Cemetery. See 1910 Vol 12 starting on pages 1, 186 & 234, 1911 Vol 13 starting on pages 102 & 193 and 1912 Vol 14 starting on pages 17 & 93.

A survey of Old North Cemetery covering inscriptions dated 1713 - 1840 was published by the Rich Family Association in 1971. It includes information from a survey by John B Dyer and Josiah L Lombard published in 1897. A plot plan and grave locations are included. The Rich publication is available in many libraries including Truro, Eastham, CCGS, CCCC and Sturgis. Sturgis also has the original Dyer survey.

Truro Pine Grove Cemetery

A survey of the Pine Grove Cemetery was published in 1983 by the Pine Grove Cemetery Association. A copy is available in the Truro Library and CCGS.

Provincetown

Provincetown Cemetery # 1

A survey up to 1850 of the Old Burying Ground at Court & Winthrop Streets (Cemetery #1) was published in "The Mayflower Descendant". See Vol 8 1906 starting on pages 20 & 225, Vol 9 1907 starting on page 222 and Vol 10 1908 starting on pages 29 & 67. This survey was done in 1905 by Stanley Smith, Edward Whorf and Phillip Cobb.

William Emery Nickerson published a manuscript in 1880 surveying Cemetery # 1. It is in the Nickerson Family Association files. Burton N Derick combined this 1880 survey with the 1905 survey reported in the Mayflower Descendant and published the result in CCGS Bulletin Vol 24 No 1 Winter 1998.

Provincetown Cemetery # 2, Gifford Cemetery & Hamilton Cemetery

"Provincetown, Mass Cemetery Inscriptions" by Lurana H Cook has about 4000 inscriptions for gravestones starting in the 1800's from Cemetery #2, Gifford Cemetery and Hamilton Cemetery. These are the next oldest cemeteries in Provincetown after Cemetery #1. This book is available in many libraries including CCCC, CCGS, Sturgis and Eastham.

Provincetown Smallpox Cemetery and Scattered Burial Sites
